Beartown meets... Body & Mind MOT 65

When you walk down Bridge Street you may have noticed the new edition, Body & Mind MOT 65; a Thai Massage Studio owned by Chadanit Morris. I was lucky enough to have a treatment in the week before it officially opened.

Many people believe the health benefits of Thai massage include lowering stress, boosting energy and improving athletic performance, this isn’t my first experience of a Thai Massage, however this was my first ever five in one treatment. I checked in (following a Covid Safe procedure) and was taken to a warm, relaxing room, decorated in a traditional Thai style with gold and blue art and rustic orange painted walls. I couldn’t have needed a massage more; I had been on a rare visit to the gym the day before and my lower back was twitchy. Chadanit explained it was caused by stiffness in my legs and she prioritised her techniques to help improve my flexibility. I had ‘The Signature Massage’; this is the five in one treatment, with each element providing their own benefits, they are:

Traditional Thai Massage: During this dry massage, the therapist will use their hands, forearms, knees, elbows and even feet to apply direct pressure to the muscles. Stretching techniques are also used to open up the joints, promoting the flow of energy and relieving tension.

Thai Yoga Therapy: A holistic and energising treatment, Thai Yoga involves stretching and manipulation, this improves flexibility, athletic performance and stamina.

Bamboo Massage: This deep tissue massage relieves stress, muscle tension, aches and pains. It’s an excellent treatment for reducing the effects of cellulite, enhancing lymphatic fluid circulation, assisting in toxin removal.

Scarf Massage: This unique technique works on the whole body and helps to stretch and tone muscles, stimulating circulation and muscle recovery.

Toksen Therapy: Toksen massage is an ancient Thai treatment using a special wooden mallet. ‘Tok’ means to tap, ‘Sen’ refers to the meridian lines in the body.

The treatment lasted an hour and a half, once it was over, I was ready to re-enter the world a more flexible and relaxed person! Chadanit is clearly an expert, she also provided me with advice to help my back tension over the coming days and I booked in for another treatment to keep on top of the flexibility.

Now you know what’s behind the doors at 19 Bridge Street I would recommend booking in for a treatment, as the nights get darker and colder, I am sure we could all do with a little relaxation.
